Common Error Messages

"Specialized File Not Found in Archive"

This error typically appears when the Anki package file is incomplete or corrupted.

  1. Try downloading the package file again

  2. Make sure you're using the latest version of Anki

  3. Check that the download completed fully before attempting to import

  4. If using mobile, try importing on desktop Anki first

"There is no item named 'media' in the archive"

This error occurs when the media files in the package aren't properly structured.

  1. Download the package file again

  2. Clear your browser cache and try exporting again

  3. If the error persists, try exporting without media files

  4. Import the cards first, then manually add any necessary media

General Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Ensure you're using a supported Anki version (2.1.x or later)

  2. Check your internet connection is stable during export and download

  3. Verify you have enough storage space on your device

  4. Close and reopen Anki before importing

  5. Try importing on a different device if possible

Best Practices for Successful Imports

  • Export one deck at a time rather than multiple decks

  • Keep your Anki application updated to the latest version

  • Save the package file to your computer before importing

  • Avoid renaming the exported .apkg file

  • Make sure Anki is completely closed before starting the import
